Instructions for Scanning
Slow Wave Inc. requires intraoral scans to be taken of the maxillary and mandibular arches. The arches will be scanned individually and then in a closed centric occlusion orientation (closed bite) to capture the bite scan, if you have been taught how to scan for aligners then you should have no problem scanning for fabrication of Slow Wave appliances. Here are some points to creating successful scans for a Slow Wave device.
- Follow the specific scanning sequence recommended by the manufacturer. Typically, this involves starting from one corner of the mouth and systematically scanning each tooth and surface. Move the intraoral scanner slowly and deliberately to capture all necessary data.
- When ordering a Slow Wave DS8 it is not required to capture the full palate, but it is necessary to include approximately 4-5mm beyond the gingival margin and all dentition.
- When ordering a Slow Wave BROSA it is required to include the full palate along with approximately 4-5mm beyond the gingival margin. Aim the intraoral scanner at the tooth or area to be scanned and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Elicit the patient’s cooperation to ensure they keep their tongue and lips away from the scanning area to avoid interference.
- Review the digital scans on the computer screen to ensure all surfaces and teeth have been adequately captured. Retake any areas that are blurry or missing.
- Once the scan is complete, upload the digital files to the appropriate software for processing. Export the scan in an STL format to Slow Wave using any method listed above.
