Patented Design

Slow Wave DS8 is covered by one or more of the following U.S. Patents:

U.S. 9,144,512, U.S. 9,439,802, U.S.10,299,957, U.S. 9,408,743, U.S. 9,445,938

Innovative Tech

First FDA cleared 510(k) OAT oral appliance to be 3D printed on a Form Labs printer

Advantages of joining the Slow Wave Community?

  1. 81% listed dealing with medical billing as a huge deterrent.  They already do dental billing and it is hard enough – who wants to take on medical billing too?!
  2. 48% of respondents told us that they don’t like the physician referral requirement of to get a sleep apnea diagnosis and prescription.  Too many patients lost in the referral process

Slow Wave took this input and changed the way oral appliances are sold so that dentists can continue to focus on their existing expertise and workflow:  Uncovering patient needs and provide scanning services.

The Slow Wave Difference

Because Obstructive Sleep Apnea is considered a medical condition, it is crucial that dentists or physicians prescribe a high-quality medical device that has not only FDA clearance, but includes patented features that will ensure patient success. Here are just a few of the unique benefits that our Slow Wave DS8 product offers.

1st 3D Printed FDA 510(K) cleared Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) for Snoring & Obstructive Sleep Apnea in the U.S.

The Slow Wave DS8 is the first Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) cleared by the FDA for snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, to be 3d printed on a Formlabs printer using Dental LT V2 material. The DS8 allows the tongue to naturally migrate forward… Other devices “pull” the tongue forward.

The long, troubled history of OAT

For many years, oral devices have been made by individual dental labs without much success in terms of patient efficacy. Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) has been more of a nuisance to dentists than a help to their patients because many devices brought to market either didn’t work or worse – caused patient harm by moving teeth or causing TMJ symptoms. As a result, patient use of them is sporadic and dentists and doctors are left struggling to help their patients find a solution that work.

Why do most OAT devices fail? One of two reasons (or in some cases both):
1) They follow an old false narrative that the key is to “Move the jaw forward.”
a. While it is true that moving the jaw forward will open the airway, the real key is moving it down into a natural position. Pulling the jaw forward without the correct vertical opening (which is the approach many devices take) has several potential harmful side effects including pain for the patient.
2) They fail to get the gap right for each individual patient
a. One-size-fits-all will NOT work as a proper OAT solution. Each patient is different with different sized mandible, maxible, tongue, mouth arch, etc. To find the correct special gap for each patient, a 3D scan of the mouth is critical. A device must be custom fit to each patient inclusive of vertical opening.
b. To get the vertical gap right the first time, Slow Wave has created a “Magic Stick” system for gap analysis. It will help ensure the jaw position and vertical gap are right for each individual patient.
