Sleep Apnea Solutions

For Patients

Advantages of the Slow Wave DS8

  • Patented system that moves the jaw down, not just forward resulting in a more open airway, room for the tongue and increased comfort.
  • Guaranteed the most comfortable oral appliance you’ll ever own! Fits with no adjustment from the dentist.
  • Maximum freedom of movement of the jaw resulting in no midline shift problems.
  • No morning repositioner, A.M. aligner necessary! DS8 does not pull your jaw so far forward that it causes damage.

What is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)?

Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when the upper airway narrows or is blocked during sleep – usually because there is not enough room for the tongue to keep from keep from blocking the airway.  When this happens, a cycle of abnormal breathing, snoring and sleep interruption continues throughout the night.  It is estimated that up to 70% of people who snore also have mild to moderate sleep apnea.

It is now estimated that 26 percent of adults between the ages of 30 and 70 years have sleep apnea.

That is a billion people worldwide!! But it remains a well-kept secret.  In fact, estimates are that 85% of people with sleep apnea go undiagnosed.  For those that are diagnosed, 50% go untreated.  For patients lucky enough to get diagnosed and prescribed treatment, only 33% of them adhere to the treatment prescribed.  Why?  Because 90% of patients in America are prescribed CPAP machines as the first line of treatment.  Many try them, but relatively few stick with them.

How do I know if I have OSA?

The great news for consumers today is that finding out is both easy and inexpensive. The days of sleeping in a lab with dozens of wires and thousands of dollars of cost has largely been replaced with home sleep studies and tele-health calls.  Now you can get a sleep study and diagnosis for as little as $300. Slow Wave can help you make that happen!

Not ready to jump into the home sleep study just yet? There are some things you can do first:

  • On your next visit to your dentist: tell them of your concern and ask if they see any signs of:
    1. Enlarged Tongue
    2. a large/long uvula
  • An oversized and “scalloped” tongue
  1. Large tonsils
  2. Signs of bruxism
  3. Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.)
  • Take the Dental Sleep Questionnaire and see how you do (hyperlink to this form found on members page)
  • Record you sleeping oxygen and pulse levels. This route will give you the most accurate indication that warrants a home sleep study. You might already have a digital watch that will report this data – but be aware that these watches are NOT FDA approved for diagnostic purposes. For accurate readings, Slow Wave uses the Wellvue O2 Ring.

How do I know if the Slow Wave DS8 will work for me?

Not all OSA solutions are created equal.  Most traditional products have good efficacy rates IF the patient can stand to wear them.

The industry “gold standard” for years has been the CPAP machine which pumps air into your nose or mouth at night.  It works – but only 30% of patients actually wear them as prescribed and many just can’t tolerate them at all (or their partners can’t).  In recent months, recalls and lawsuits related to CPAP machines have filled the airways.

Traditional Oral appliances focused on pulling the bottom jaw forward during sleep to force the tongue to come forward too.  That works to reduce OSA by about 50% and many if not most users require a morning repositioner to get their jaw back into place for the day – OUCH!

The newly, multi-patented Slow Wave DS8 takes a unique approach that both maximizes patient comfort (meaning they wear it all night) and produces effectiveness.  Our users average improved breathing levels that reduce OSA events by 90%+ – on the first night!!!

Testimonials

The Slow Wave DS8 oral appliances have totally replaced my need for the C-Pap. I have been reluctantly and painfully dependent on the C-Pap for several years due to snoring and moderate to severe sleep apnea. The devices take a little bit of getting used to and training, however the well trained and friendly staff at Slow Wave are always there to help. After a week or so, you will hardly know they are on your teeth and can also drink water. This treatment for snoring and sleep apnea goes well beyond the devices. They also teach you ways to sleep and proper habits to help you succeed in a great nights sleep with high oxygen numbers without the C-Pap. Spent my first Christmas away from home without my C-Pap this year! So nice!

Dr. Jimmy D. Bolton, D.C.

“I have been dealing with sleep apnea for decades. Not that I needed confirmation, but this has been confirmed by at least three in-clinic sleep studies and reinforced by my wife every night for the majority of our 38-years of marriage.

After repeated and persistent “encouragement” by my wife tired of being woken up by my snoring, I waved the white flag of surrender and signed up to get a CPAP device. "What could be so bad about this” I thought to myself? “After all, many or our family and friends told me what a difference their CPAP machines had made in their lives.” However, when I pressed them on what a hassle it must be to strap on a mask each night, everyone of them said, “Yes, it’s a hassle and pain, but you get used to it.”
So, I signed up and worked with a leading provider of CPAP machines and got the top-of-the-line machine. It had all the bells and whistles. They were great to work with and sent me every kind of mask configuration they had but kept waking up gasping for air and finding my mask partially off my face. After months of trying, I came to the realization that a CPAP machine just isn’t for me.

My decision to not use my CPAP machine not only impacted me and my sleep but also my wife’s sleep. We were desperate, well at least my wife was desperate. I thought I was sleeping better without a CPAP, or so I thought but she wasn't. It was at this point that my wife saw an advertisement for Slow Wave.
When I walked into their office, Wayne, Tina and staff were amazing. They patiently worked with me to dispelled all of my skepticism. So, I agreed to try the Slow Wave device and approach. To my shock and amazement, it worked!

There are two primary components to the Slow Wave system. The first is a blood oxygen monitoring ring I wear on my finger. It is the size of a Super Bowl ring that I got used to almost immediately. It alerts me in the night, via vibrating, when my blood oxygen levels have fallen to an unhealthy level. It gently wakes me up by gently vibrating so I wake up enough to change my sleeping position and immediately fall back to sleep. I have gotten to the point that I don’t even notice being wakened up. Another really nice feature of this ring is that not only monitors my oxygen levels in the night but then shares the data for each nights rest to an app and to my computer through a Bluetooth connection. I’m a data geek and find the data is really helpful. I have opted to share my data with Slow Wave and they provide me feedback and continued encouragement.
The second component of the Slow Wave system is a custom fit mouth piece that is very comfortable to wear. It keeps my mouth and tongue from going back into my throat. The combination of the blood oxygen monitoring ring and the mouth piece make such a difference.

The Slow Wave approach has dramatically changed the quality of my sleep and, as a result, having a huge impact of the quality my life. It is also important that I give a major “shoutout” to the Slow Wave staff. They patiently explained how everything worked and were fantastic in every step of the way. I encourage you to check out Slow Wave. You will not regret it.”

"I heard about Slow Wave and their idea of a totally out of the box approach to the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. No more lugging around a machine with bunches of supplies that constantly need replacing. And no surgery to implant a device in your body with batteries that will need periodic replacement as one company is promoting. Just a unique, precision designed oral appliance that is worn in your mouth while you sleep and taken out each morning.

I'll tell you what. It works for me. No more interrupted sleep for me or my wife. My sleep apnea events are greatly reduced to an acceptable level when I sleep while wearing the Slow Wave device according to the data collected easily each night with a wearable o2 ring.

My quality of life has been restored thanks to the fine folks at Slow Wave."

"Following a sleep apnea diagnosis by my pulmonologist, I was painlessly fitted with this wonderful oral appliance. Advice on sleeping positions was also provided. My results have been amazing, and I have avoided using a CPAP machine. I highly recommend that you try this effective alternative to CPAP. It has changed my life!"

"The Slow Wave DS8 device has been a game changer to my sleep quality. Before using this device I woke regularly throughout the night due to my bruxism and apnea which I have been suffering from since my youth. Much like everyone else after a restless night, I experience the sensation of being groggy and hypersensitive upon waking up. However, since using the device I have noticed that I sleep longer and steadily through the night and feel more energized in the mornings. I can finally breathe at night time without waking up with a sore jaw or a pulsing headache. There is not a night that passes that I do not wear my DS8."

Amanda

"I have really enjoyed my DS8 device by SlowWave! I have had many issues with my sleep since my time in the military and it really was starting to show. It was like I had been slowly drained of my vigor. Since I started using the DS8 device, however, I have noticed a drastic restoration of my energy levels. Now, most mornings I wake up and feel like I actually rested that night. I have to wear it at night if I want the best me the next day."
